Can AI Fix the Paperwork Problem in Prosthetics?

Hanger Clinic has partnered with New York-based automation company Hyperscience to integrate artificial intelligence into its administrative systems, in a move expected to streamline operations and accelerate prosthetics care across the United States.

Announced in October 2025, the partnership aims to automate the paperwork that has long slowed clinical workflows, from insurance approvals to claims processing. Hyperscience’s AI platform can read, organize and verify documents that previously required hours of manual input.

“The biggest improvement isn’t just speed, it’s reliability,” said a senior operations manager at Hanger. “Accurate data flow strengthens every step of the patient journey.” The structured data generated by the platform could also support predictive analytics, enabling clinics to anticipate patient needs.

Analysts view the collaboration as part of a wider digital shift in healthcare. “Transformation is happening not in the devices themselves, but in how information moves through the system,” said Sarah Greene of MedTech Review. Improved data handling, she added, could enhance outcome tracking and regulatory compliance, areas where many medical providers continue to face challenges.

The adoption of automation technology, however, poses its own hurdles. Many prosthetics clinics still rely on outdated electronic health record systems, and compliance with federal privacy standards such as HIPAA remains a key concern. Training staff and ensuring robust data security will be essential to maintaining patient confidence.

Regulatory attitudes toward digital health innovation are softening, according to industry observers, creating a more receptive environment for modernization.

If successful, the Hanger and Hyperscience initiative could set a model for broader use of automation in rehabilitation and medical device care. By reducing administrative delays and improving data accuracy, the companies aim to free clinicians to focus more on patient outcomes, marking a significant step toward connected, data-driven prosthetics care.
